Bio
Recruited from the Ballarat Football Club, Alf Appleton joined a formidable Fitzroy outfit in 1907, a period when the Maroons were consistently challenging for the premiership. Standing just 173cm, the diminutive recruit was utilised as a rotating rover and forward pocket, managing to boot two goals during his short time in the seniors. He made his debut in Round 3 against Geelong but faced an uphill battle to cement a regular spot in a star-studded lineup that had claimed flags in two of the previous three years. Consequently, Appleton's VFL career was brief, comprising just five appearances in the first half of the season before he lost his place in the side.
