Bio
A local product recruited from the South Melbourne Colts, Alf Callick was a tenacious defender whose VFL career was significantly interrupted by World War II. After making his debut as a teenager in 1943, he put his football ambitions on hold to serve his country, consequently missing the Swans' infamous 1945 "Bloodbath" campaign. He returned to the Lake Oval in 1946, establishing himself as an uncompromising half-back and occasional ruckman who was renowned for his persistence and refusal to concede an inch to opponents. Callick remained a fixture in the side until the end of the 1950 season, eventually departing the VFL to captain-coach Traralgon in the Latrobe Valley.
