Bio
Recruited from Montague Juniors, Alf Clauscen was a local product trialled by St Kilda during the club's tumultuous formative years in the VFL. He broke into the senior side late in the 1898 season, making his debut in Round 14 against Fitzroy at the Junction Oval. Clauscen joined a lineup that was historically uncompetitive, with the Saints failing to win a single match throughout the entire year. He managed just two appearances—his second coming against Collingwood at Victoria Park—before losing his place in the side. His brief career is emblematic of the revolving-door selection policy St Kilda was forced to employ during a bleak era where the club famously went without a win for the competition's first three years.
