Bio
Recruited from Sandringham in the VFA, Alf Copsey was a defender whose transition to the top level was effectively delayed by the Second World War. He finally made his VFL debut with Melbourne in 1946, operating primarily as a back pocket or half-back flanker during the club's post-war resurgence. Finding it difficult to secure a permanent position in a strong Demons lineup that reached the Grand Final that year, Copsey crossed to St Kilda the following season in search of greater senior opportunities. He played out the remainder of his brief VFL tenure at the Junction Oval, providing defensive depth for the Saints over two seasons before departing at the end of 1948.
