Bio
A dominant figure in the Eastern Suburbs Churches Association, Alf Giblett was a mature-age recruit who joined Hawthorn after winning consecutive Best and Fairest awards with South Hawthorn United. Standing 182cm, he was a key position defender who slotted into the lineup for nine games during the 1935 season, providing height and stability in the backline without drifting forward to score. While his time at the top level was restricted to a single winter, Giblett holds a solemn place in the club's history as one of ten Hawthorn players to lose their lives during World War II, tragically killed in action in New Guinea in 1943 while serving with the Second AIF.
