Bio
A diminutive rover and small forward standing just 161cm, Alf Hurley was a dangerous goal-kicker recruited from Port Melbourne who used his low centre of gravity to great effect. He established himself at Hawthorn, where his ability to crumb packs and snap goals under pressure made him a consistent scoring threat, averaging nearly two goals a game during his time at Glenferrie Oval. Hurley crossed to Fitzroy midway through the 1938 season, immediately finding his feet to boot regular goals for the Maroons until the end of the following year. His VFL journey seemingly concluded as the league faced wartime disruptions, but he made a surprise return three years later for a single game with St Kilda in 1942, lending his experience to a Saints side struggling for numbers during the Second World War.
