Stats
Bio
A local product born and bred in North Carlton, Alf Key was elevated from the Carlton District side during a tumultuous period for the Blues in 1920. His senior debut against Melbourne came at the end of a chaotic week following the resignation of captain Charlie Fisher, and he took the field at Princes Park in atrocious conditions that left the ground submerged and caused a delayed start. Unable to cement a regular spot in the senior lineup, he crossed town to Fitzroy the following season for a brief two-game stint with the Maroons before returning to Carlton District, where he eventually served as vice-captain. While his VFL career was short-lived, Key recently re-entered football folklore in 2022 when a long-lost team photo was discovered, finally putting a face to his name in the club archives after a century of photographic obscurity.
