Bio
Born in a Kenyan refugee camp to Sudanese parents, Aliir Aliir made history as the first player of Sudanese heritage taken in the National Draft when Sydney selected him with pick 44 in 2013. He quickly established himself as an athletic key defender capable of spectacular intercept marks, though his tenure with the Swans was occasionally unsettled by being deployed as a pinch-hitting ruckman to cover structural gaps. Seeking a permanent defensive post and greater role security, he was traded to Port Adelaide at the end of 2020, a move that revitalised his career and paid immediate dividends for the Power.
At Alberton, Aliir flourished, earning All-Australian selection in his first season with the club. His capacity to read the play, zone off his opponent, and launch counter-attacks has made him one of the most damaging defenders in the league, often forcing opposition coaches to deploy a defensive forward to negate his influence. Now a seasoned veteran, he remains the lynchpin of the Port Adelaide backline, providing essential aerial stability and leadership inside the defensive 50.
