Bio
Recruited from Perth with pick 62 in the 2008 National Draft, Alistair Smith was a pacy, left-footed midfielder who faced the unenviable task of breaking into St Kilda’s engine room during the club’s peak Ross Lyon era. Originally from Northam in country Western Australia, Smith spent his first two seasons biding his time with VFL affiliate Sandringham, frequently named as an emergency while sitting behind established stars like Lenny Hayes and Nick Dal Santo. He finally earned his senior debut in Round 3, 2011 against Essendon, gathering a respectable 16 disposals to show he could match the tempo of AFL football. Despite the promising start, opportunities remained scarce in the Saints' experienced lineup, and he was delisted at the end of 2011 after just three senior appearances, eventually returning home to continue his career in the WAFL.
