Bio
Recruited from Yarraville after serving in the Army Service Corps during World War II, Allan Broadway was a capable forward who showed early promise by booting 12 goals in his debut season at Footscray. His league career was largely defined by a restless 1946 campaign where he attempted to transfer to Camberwell or St Kilda before eventually being cleared to Fitzroy mid-season, making him one of the rare players to represent two VFL clubs in the same year. After his brief stint at the top level concluded, he forged a successful path in country football, captain-coaching Coleraine to a premiership in 1948 before entering local folklore for surviving a lightning strike while a spectator at a cricket match in Stratford.
