Bio
Recruited from Lismore in Victoria’s Western District, Allan Everett established himself as a tenacious back pocket who generated play with his dashing rebound from defence. While he was occasionally rotated through the half-forward line in his early years, he found his true niche in the backline, where his pace and anticipation allowed him to turn defence into attack. His consistent form was recognised with selection for the Big V on two occasions, marking him as one of the premier small defenders of the era.
Everett’s time at Corio Oval was highlighted by his role in the 1937 premiership side, helping the Cats overcome Collingwood in a famous, high-scoring Grand Final. He took on significant leadership responsibilities towards the end of his VFL tenure, serving as captain-coach for the majority of the 1940 season and steering the club to seven wins. His career at the top level ended under controversial circumstances when he crossed to VFA club Preston without a clearance in 1941, closing the book on a distinguished 117-game stint with Geelong.
