Stats
Bio
Recruited from Red Cliffs in the Sunraysia Football League, Hassell arrived at Moorabbin as a mature-age prospect who was already 24 when he made his senior debut. Standing 191cm, he was a tall utility capable of playing key position roles and showed he could find the football at the highest level, most notably gathering 22 disposals and taking five marks in a late-season clash against Essendon. Despite these flashes of promise, his VFL tenure was restricted to a single winter in 1982, playing six games for a struggling Saints lineup that finished second-last on the ladder. He departed the club at the end of the season, remaining one of the many "one-year wonders" who briefly graced the VFL before returning to country football.
