Bio
Recruited from the Perth Football Club in the WAFL, Allan Montgomery joined Carlton ahead of the 1982 season, entering a squad at the peak of its powers. An agile and wiry utility capable of playing on a half-back flank, wing, or even in the forward pocket, he was noted for his impressive vertical leap and strong fitness base. Despite his athleticism, Montgomery faced the difficult task of breaking into a star-studded lineup that featured defensive greats like Bruce Doull and Ken Hunter, restricting him to the role of a fringe player during the club's successful early-80s era. He enjoyed his most consistent run of senior selection in 1984 but saw his time at Princes Park come to a premature end midway through the 1985 season, when he was granted a clearance back to Western Australia on compassionate grounds following a family illness.
