Bio
Recruited from Frankston, Allan Quartermain broke into the VFL ranks as a teenager during Hawthorn's struggling "Mayblooms" period in the early 1930s. The younger brother of Fitzroy stalwart Don Quartermain, he was handed a brief opportunity to test his mettle at the elite level, making his debut as an 18-year-old in the 1932 season. Standing 175cm, the Mornington Peninsula product managed just two senior games for the club without troubling the scorers before drifting out of the team's plans. While his career at Glenferrie Oval was short-lived compared to his brother's lengthy tenure at the Lions, he remains a unique footnote in league history, often remembered for sharing a name with the famous protagonist of H. Rider Haggard's adventure novels.
