Recruited from the local St Albans Football Club, Allan Reid was a utility who earned a brief trial with Geelong during the club's historic 1951 premiership season. He broke into the senior lineup mid-year, debuting in a comfortable win over St Kilda and holding his place for a victory against South Melbourne the following week. Facing the difficult task of displacing established stars in a side destined to break a 26-year flag drought, Reid was unable to cement a permanent spot and returned to the Geelong & District league after his two VFL appearances. While his time at the top level was short-lived, he remained a significant figure in local football and was later inducted into the St Albans Hall of Fame.
