Teams

Recruited from Claremont after tasting premiership success in the WAFL, Allen "Shorty" Daniels joined Footscray in 1985 as part of a significant influx of Western Australian talent that revitalised the club alongside names like Brad Hardie and Simon Beasley. A diminutive but energetic wingman and rover, he quickly established himself as a key component of a formidable centre line featuring Doug Hawkins and Steve Wallis. Daniels was renowned for his on-field cheekiness, blistering pace, and a potent long kick that often resulted in opportunistic goals. He played a crucial role in the Bulldogs' surge to the 1985 Preliminary Final, kicking vital goals in the Semi Final win over North Melbourne, but persistent groin injuries the following season limited his output. Daniels returned to the WAFL in 1987, remembered at Footscray as a lively character who made a substantial contribution to one of the club's most exciting eras.
