Teams

Hailing from local outfit Richmond City, Allen Lewis was a patient club servant who served a lengthy apprenticeship in the reserves before finally earning his senior opportunity. A sturdy 178cm and 89kg utility, Lewis was a stalwart of the seconds from 1937, biding his time for nearly eight years before breaking into the senior lineup as a 27-year-old during the player shortages of the Second World War. He made three consecutive appearances in the middle of the 1944 season—debuting in a notable win over Collingwood—before eventually departing the top level. Lewis continued his football journey in the VFA with Camberwell and later found significant success on the Mornington Peninsula, where he captain-coached Seaford to a premiership in 1951.
