Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Eaglehawk Football Club in the Bendigo Football League, Almond Richards was a solidly built utility who earned a brief opportunity at the top level with Essendon in 1936. Possessing a robust frame at 179cm and 84kg, he broke into the senior side for the opening round of the season and held his spot for the first month of football, appearing in four consecutive matches. Despite this promising start, Richards was unable to impact the scoreboard or secure a permanent position in the lineup, eventually losing his place in the side following a Round 4 loss to Collingwood. His VFL career ended as quickly as it began, but his elevation from the country leagues remained a notable achievement, and he returned to the Bendigo region where he is remembered as a stalwart of the local game.
