Bio
A dedicated product of the NSW football pathway, Andrew Bomford took the scenic route to the top level, playing almost 80 games for the Sydney Swans' reserves as a supplementary list player before Essendon offered him a senior lifeline with pick 25 in the 1996 National Draft. A hard-running utility and defensive tagger, he played 13 games for the Bombers during their rise in the late 90s, often used to nullify opposition playmakers with his superior endurance. He was traded back home to the Swans for the 1999 season—in a deal involving the pick for Danny Jacobs—where he added another 15 games as an honest, working-class defender. Although his AFL career was short-lived, Bomford returned to local footy as a hero, playing in a premiership for North Shore and earning selection in the club's Team of the Century.
