Bio
Recruited from Sandringham in the VFA, Andrew Collins arrived at Hawthorn as a mature-age prospect in 1987 and quickly established himself as a vital component of a star-studded lineup. A disciplined back-pocket and run-with player, Collins was renowned for his concentration and ability to completely nullify the influence of dangerous opposition small forwards and rovers. His tight checking and defensive accountability allowed the Hawks' attacking flair to flourish up the ground, making him one of the first names on the team sheet during the club's golden era.
Collins enjoyed immense success during his tenure at Glenferrie Oval, featuring in the 1988, 1989, and 1991 premiership sides. While he often performed selfless roles for the team structure, his individual prowess was undeniable, famously winning the Peter Crimmins Medal as the club's best and fairest in 1990 ahead of a host of legendary teammates. He remained a consistent figure in the Hawthorn defence through the mid-1990s transition period, eventually retiring in 1996 as a highly respected 200-game player and three-time premiership hero.
