Bio
Originally from St Bernards in the VAFA, Andrew Johnston progressed through the Essendon development pathway, playing Under 19s and reserves football for the Bombers without breaking into their strong senior lineup. He was handed a lifeline by Fitzroy in the 1990 Pre-Season Draft, joining the Lions as a rover and centreman. Standing 179cm, Johnston played six games in his debut season and added another three in 1991, struggling to cement a permanent spot in a midfield rotation during a period of significant on-field and financial instability for the club. While his time at the top level was brief, he remained deeply involved in the football landscape post-retirement, carving out a respected career in coaching and administration with organizations including the Gold Coast Suns, Calder Cannons, and the EDFL.
