Recruited via the Rookie Draft after impressing in the WAFL with East Perth, Andrew Lovett overcame early career rejections to become one of the league's most electrifying line-breakers during his time at Essendon. Possessing searing pace and elite evasion, he established himself as a damaging ball-carrier and goal-kicking flanker, famously winning the Anzac Day Medal in just his fourth senior game in 2005. Despite his distinct on-field brilliance, Lovett's time at Windy Hill was frequently complicated by disciplinary matters, eventually leading to a high-profile trade to St Kilda following the 2009 season in exchange for a first-round draft pick. His tenure at Moorabbin proved short-lived, however, as the Saints terminated his contract prior to the 2010 season following significant off-field controversy, leaving him stranded on 88 games without making a senior appearance for his second club.
