Bio
Recruited from Daylesford, Andrew Manning was a versatile half-forward and ruck rover who experienced the brutal highs and lows of league football. He made an immediate impact at St Kilda as an 18-year-old, playing 19 games in his debut season, but recurring fitness issues eventually led to his delisting in 1988. Handed a lifeline by Essendon, Manning rebuilt his career at Windy Hill and became a key part of their finals campaigns. He is perhaps best remembered for a controversial incident in the 1989 Semi Final where he was struck by Peter Schwab, resulting in a suspension that cost the Hawthorn star a premiership medallion. Manning suffered his own heartbreak the following year; after playing regularly throughout 1990, he was omitted from the Grand Final side following a quiet Preliminary Final, missing out on the Bombers' drought-breaking flag.
