Bio
Recruited from St Bernard’s and the Calder Cannons with pick 90 in the 1999 National Draft, Andrew Merrington was a strongly built key forward who arrived at Carlton as the club entered a challenging rebuilding phase. The son of former Footscray player Gary Merrington, he was known for his ability to crash packs and take contested marks, offering a physical target in the Blues' forward line. Despite making an encouraging start to his career in 2000, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the senior 22, often finding himself on the fringe of selection while dominating at VFL level with the Northern Bullants. After being delisted following the 2003 season, Merrington carved out a distinguished state-league career, winning a best and fairest with East Perth in the WAFL and later returning to St Bernard’s to become a premier player in the VAFA.
