Stats
Bio
A towering defensive prospect recruited from Box Hill, Andrew Nichol took a gritty path to senior football via the supplementary list. He first proved his worth in the reserves, playing as a key pillar in Footscray’s 1994 reserves premiership victory, a performance that saw him elevated to the senior list with the 37th pick in the 1995 Pre-Season Draft. Standing at 196cm, Nichol was a physically imposing key defender built to wrestle with the era’s large full-forwards. He broke into the senior side for a three-game stint midway through the 1995 season, debuting against Collingwood at the MCG, but was unable to cement a permanent spot in the backline. After his playing days concluded, Nichol established a strong reputation in player development, serving as an assistant coach at Melbourne and mentoring talent within the Vic Metro pathway.
