Bio
A standout South Australian defender, Andrew "Buck" Rogers arrived in the VFL with a formidable reputation, having already earned All-Australian selection and famously blanketed Hawthorn star Dermott Brereton in State of Origin football while playing for Woodville. Despite being taken by Essendon with pick 6 in the 1987 National Draft, he struggled to cement a regular spot in the Bombers' lineup and managed just eight games before seeking a fresh start. A move to Geelong in 1989 saw him reunited with his former Woodville mentor Malcolm Blight, a switch that immediately revitalised his career. Rogers became a dependable key defender for the Cats, known for his strong overhead marking and disciplined checking of opposition forwards. He was a fixture in the Geelong side during their early 90s resurgence, playing 75 games and featuring in the 1992 Grand Final loss to West Coast before returning home to captain the newly merged Woodville-West Torrens to their inaugural SANFL premiership.
