Bio
Recruited from the VAFA’s Old Melburnians, Andrew Witts arrived at Victoria Park as a mature-age recruit midway through the 1985 season. A wingman who was thrust directly into senior football at age 23, Witts is best remembered by football historians for wearing the number 65 guernsey on debut against Essendon—holding the record for the highest number ever worn in a VFL/AFL premiership match. He retained his spot for seven consecutive games late in the year, providing serviceable run on the outside, but struggled to impact the scoreboard or cement a permanent role in a Magpies side undergoing significant coaching turmoil. Although he remained on the list for 1986, he did not add to his game tally and departed the top level as a unique footnote in Collingwood’s history.
