Bio
A foundation player for Collingwood in the VFA, Andy Allan is historically significant as a Magpie pioneer who made a brief, late-career cameo with St Kilda. Recruited from South Melbourne Juniors, he played in Collingwood’s inaugural match in 1892 and established himself as a "bulky but fast" utility who could shut down opponents in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. After leaving Victoria Park to captain Albert Park—where his leadership was so highly regarded he earned the nickname "Wellington"—Allan was handed a VFL lifeline by the struggling Saints in 1899. Already 30 years old and joining a winless side destined for the wooden spoon, he managed just four senior appearances before departing to captain Preston to a hat-trick of local premierships.
