Bio
Arriving at Essendon with a premiership pedigree from the VFA, Andy Donnelly was recruited from North Melbourne after featuring in their 1918 flag-winning side. He immediately found a home in the Bombers' defence, operating as a half-back who featured regularly throughout the 1920 season. Although he struggled to hold his spot in the senior side the following year, managing just two appearances, he found success at the lower level by playing a pivotal role in the club's 1921 reserves premiership. Donnelly eventually left the league to play for South Ballarat, paving the way for his younger brother Gerry, who would famously represent four different clubs including a brief stint at Windy Hill in the 1930s.
