Teams

Recruited from the Oakleigh Chargers with pick 27 in the 2007 National Draft, Andy Otten quickly emerged as a promising talent for the Adelaide Crows. He announced himself in 2009 with a breakout season as a composed, intercepting defender, finishing runner-up to Daniel Rich in the Rising Star award. However, his career trajectory was severely altered by a series of devastating setbacks, most notably two knee reconstructions that forced him to miss the entire 2010 and 2015 seasons, limiting his continuity and forcing him to repeatedly fight his way back onto the list.

Despite these physical challenges, Otten proved to be a resilient utility player for the Crows, valued for his ability to plug holes in defence or present as a marking target in the forward line when required. While he struggled to maintain a permanent spot in the best 22 during his later years due to the club's defensive depth and his own durability issues, he remained a highly respected figure at West Lakes for his perseverance and clubmanship. He departed Adelaide at the end of the 2019 season, having played 109 games across a 12-year tenure defined by his constant battle against injury.
