Bio
A solidly built utility recruited from Scotch College and Echuca, Andy Preston carved out a respectable career as a versatile contributor capable of filling roles on the wing or as a key position player. Establishing himself at Geelong, his most productive individual season came in 1979 where he polled well in the Brownlow Medal, but he eventually found himself squeezed out of the senior side during the Cats' strong early-80s era, featuring in back-to-back reserves premierships in 1980 and 1981. Seeking greater opportunities, Preston crossed to Richmond in 1982 and played a vital role in their finals campaign, notably performing well in the semi-final victory over Carlton, before a heartbreaking hamstring injury ruled him out of the Grand Final side. After leaving the VFL to captain-coach Bunaloo to premiership success in the country leagues, he made a brief top-level comeback in 1986, spending time with Collingwood's reserves before adding two final senior games to his tally at Footscray.
