Bio
Recruited by Melbourne with pick 3 in the 2014 National Draft, Angus Brayshaw entered the league with strong footballing pedigree as the son of former Kangaroo Mark Brayshaw. His early years were plagued by a series of debilitating concussions that forced him to wear a protective helmet and placed his career in genuine jeopardy. Showing immense resilience, he rebounded to deliver a career-best season in 2018, finishing third in the Brownlow Medal as a prolific inside midfielder before shifting roles to accommodate the team's balance.
Throughout Melbourne's resurgence, Brayshaw established himself as the ultimate team player, sacrificing his own disposal counts to play predominantly on the wing and later as an intercepting defender. A vital member of the 2021 premiership side, he was renowned for his two-way running, courage, and tactical versatility. His time at the top level was brought to a premature end in early 2024 when he retired on medical advice following the lingering effects of a concussion sustained during the previous year's finals series, departing as a beloved one-club player and leader.
