Recruited from the Goulburn Valley, Anthony Condon established himself as a vital cog in the powerful Hawthorn sides of the late 1980s and early 1990s. While he lacked the polish of celebrated teammates like John Platten or Darren Jarman, Condon was an uncompromising in-and-under midfielder who thrived on the physical contest. His role was often to extract the hard ball or negate opposition playmakers, doing the heavy lifting that allowed the Hawks' outside runners to damage opponents on the scoreboard.

Condon's disciplined approach saw him feature in both the 1989 and 1991 premiership victories, cementing his place in the club's history during its golden era. As the legends of the 1980s gradually retired, he evolved into a senior leader during Hawthorn's difficult transition period in the mid-1990s. He remained a consistent performer in the centre square until his retirement, finishing his career as a respected one-club player who provided grit and stability over 145 games in the brown and gold.
