Recruited from St Dominic's, Anthony Rock developed into a quintessential Shinboner, establishing himself as a tough, uncompromising midfielder who could push forward to hit the scoreboard. While often operating in the shadow of higher-profile teammates during North Melbourne's dominant 1990s era, Rock was an integral structural component of the 1996 premiership side, providing both defensive pressure and offensive drive. His ability to win contested ball and deliver under pressure made him a regular fixture in the senior side, playing a key role in multiple finals campaigns before the club's salary cap pressures forced a difficult exit following the 1998 Grand Final loss.

Rock extended his career at Hawthorn, crossing over via the pre-season draft to provide veteran leadership to a young list. While his pace had diminished slightly by the turn of the millennium, his football brain and competitive instinct remained sharp, allowing him to play a valuable mentorship role over three seasons in brown and gold. He retired as a member of the 200 club, remembered primarily as a selfless contributor to the Kangaroos' golden era and a reliable senior figure during his twilight years at Glenferrie.
