Stats
Bio
Recruited from Murrumbeena Districts, Anthony Smith was a highly promising tall forward who dominated the junior ranks, claiming the Tigers' Under-19s Best and Fairest in 1968 and featuring in two premierships at that level. Despite breaking into Tom Hafey's senior side as a teenager late in the 1969 season, Smith battled to secure a permanent spot in Richmond's powerhouse lineup, with his progress severely hampered by chronic knee issues that eventually required four operations. While he was a prolific scorer in the reserves—topping the goalkicking in 1969—his VFL career was restricted to just four senior appearances over four seasons. He eventually departed Punt Road to play in the VFA with Caulfield before finding success in country football, winning a premiership with Drysdale.
