Bio
Recruited from St Bernard's College, Anton Grbac was a local product who progressed through the Bombers' development pathways, having represented the club in the Little League as early as 1972. A tall defender standing 189cm, he built a reputation for toughness in the seconds, winning Essendon’s reserves Most Courageous Player award twice (1980 and 1982) and the Most Consistent Player award in 1981. Grbac finally earned his senior opportunity late in the 1982 season, featuring in consecutive victories over St Kilda and Geelong. Despite his solid form at the lower level, he was unable to cement a spot in Kevin Sheedy’s emerging powerhouse side and spent the entire 1983 season in the reserves before transferring to West Torrens in the SANFL the following year.
