Bio
A Richmond native, Arch McNair ventured across town to the Lake Oval to represent South Melbourne during the VFL's nascent years. He managed 13 senior appearances across the 1898 and 1899 seasons, operating as a fringe player for a Bloods outfit that was still establishing its identity in the new competition. Unable to impact the scoreboard during his brief tenure in the red and white, McNair struggled to cement a permanent place in the lineup and eventually departed the VFL to join Richmond in the VFA. While his on-field career at the elite level was short-lived, his contribution to the game extended well beyond his playing days, as he later became a pivotal administrator and long-serving treasurer for the Tigers, helping steer his home club through its own successful transition into the VFL.
