Stats
Bio
Hailing from Tongala in the Goulburn Valley, Arch Shields was a tall, rangy forward who arrived at Princes Park in 1937. Standing at 183cm, he possessed the height to play as a key position target but operated effectively as a dangerous option inside 50, demonstrating a sharp eye for the big sticks with a career average of exactly one goal per game. He enjoyed a promising debut season, featuring prominently in the Blues' lineup, but found himself on the fringes during the club's historic 1938 premiership campaign. With legendary goalkicker Harry "Soapy" Vallence and Jack Wrout dominating the forward arc, Shields was restricted to just three appearances in the flag-winning year before departing the VFL scene to return to country football.
