Bio
A courageous defender and decorated World War I veteran, Archie Giles holds a permanent place in history as one of North Melbourne's "Original Shinboners." His early career was interrupted by military service, where he was wounded in action and mentioned in despatches for bravery during a trench raid in France. After returning to Australia and playing a handful of senior games for Essendon, Giles crossed to North Melbourne during their VFA era, establishing himself as a pillar of consistency by missing just one match across three seasons. When North was finally admitted to the VFL in 1925, the reliable back pocket was automatically selected for their inaugural side, providing vital experience and defensive grit to the lineup before hanging up his boots early the following year.
