Recruited from Castlemaine in the Victorian goldfields, Archie McNeel was a mid-season arrival who managed to instantly cement a spot in a strong Carlton lineup. Debuting in July 1905, he played ten consecutive games to close out the year, offering reliability in a defensive capacity that kept him in the side for the entire finals campaign. His brief VFL career culminated in a Semi Final win over Collingwood and a Preliminary Final loss to Fitzroy, after which he departed the League as quickly as he had arrived.
