Bio
Recruited from local club Newtown, Archie Thompson holds the distinction of being a foundation player for Geelong, taking the field in the club's inaugural VFL campaign in 1897. He established himself as a durable and versatile utility for the Pivotonians, missing only a handful of games during the league's first three seasons. Thompson was a reliable figure in a competitive Geelong side that finished as the runner-up in the historic 1897 season, contributing across multiple positions rather than settling into a fixed role. He continued to serve the club faithfully through the turn of the century, concluding his 61-game career at the elite level following the 1901 season.
