Bio
Recruited from Healesville in the Yarra Valley, Art McWhinney was a tall utility who featured for Melbourne during the club's challenging return to the VFL in 1919. Joining a 'Fuschias' lineup that had been in recess during the First World War, he stepped into a side that was largely overmatched and went on to endure a winless season. McWhinney made his debut in Round 9 and played nine games in the second half of the year, using his 183cm frame to support a playing group that was under constant siege. Following his brief senior career, he left the city and returned to country football, later appearing for Millgrove in the mid-1920s.
