Bio
Born in Melton Mowbray, England, Art Wilkinson was a rare British-born talent who progressed from the Collingwood District side to earn a senior debut in 1912. Standing just 172cm, he was described by contemporaries as a "pocket marvel," playing primarily as a small forward and rover where his agility and goal sense allowed him to compensate for a light frame. Despite impressing rookie coach Jock McHale and booting eight goals in his debut season, Wilkinson struggled to lock down a permanent place in the Magpies' best 18 and crossed to Essendon in 1913 in search of greater opportunities. The switch failed to ignite his career, adding just two senior games to his tally before his time in the VFL concluded, after which he utilised his background as a chauffeur to serve in the Motor Transport Section during World War I.
