A product of Geelong College and the University of Melbourne, Arthur Davidson was recruited to Fitzroy from Ormond College, where he had captained the football team. He featured in just two matches during the 1898 season, his footballing ambitions ultimately secondary to his rigorous theological studies. With his sights set on the pulpit rather than the premiership dais, he stepped away from the game early to become a Presbyterian minister. Davidson went on to serve as a military chaplain in both World Wars, carving out a distinguished life of service long after his brief cameo in the VFL.
