Bio
Arthur "Shooter" Ford was a fiery defender whose stop-start career at Princes Park was defined by premiership success and significant controversy. Recruited from Essendon Town, he played a single season in 1903 before heading west, winning a WAFL flag with West Perth during a four-year hiatus. He returned to Carlton late in 1908, immediately slotting into the backline to help the Blues secure their historic third consecutive premiership. Ford’s legacy, however, is complicated by his unique dual role as player and club secretary, a tenure that ended explosively in 1910 when he copped a massive 12-month suspension for threatening a field umpire following a heated clash against Fitzroy. He eventually returned to feature in the 1911 and 1912 finals campaigns before departing to captain-coach Echuca, remembered as a combustible but vital figure in the club's first golden era.
