Stats
Bio
Recruited from Chelsea, Arthur Gooch was a robust tall utility who balanced duties between the ruck and the backline during a successful era for Collingwood. Standing 188cm, he used his imposing frame to great effect, often playing as a follower who could drop back to shore up the defence. He was a central figure in the Magpies' early 1950s dominance, playing in three Grand Finals in the space of four years. His career highlight came in the 1953 premiership victory over Geelong, where he occupied the back pocket and helped quell the Cats' scoring avenues. After 76 games in the black and white, he departed to captain-coach Box Hill in the VFA, where he later won a club best and fairest.
