Bio
Recruited from Mooroopna in the Goulburn Valley, Arthur Irvine was a handy forward and utility player who represented Geelong during the club’s post-war rebuilding phase. Standing 180cm, he possessed the size to contest marks and the versatility to drift into attack, booting 40 goals across his 48 senior appearances. He was a regular contributor under coach Reg Hickey as the Cats transformed from cellar dwellers into a powerhouse, playing his part in the team's rapid ascent up the ladder in the late 1940s. Despite featuring in the 1951 season that culminated in Geelong’s first premiership in 14 years, Irvine ultimately missed out on the Grand Final side, finishing his VFL career just as the club entered its golden era. He remains a notable figure from the period of consolidation that laid the foundation for the Cats' record-breaking success in the early 1950s.
