Bio
Arthur Jones was a promising recruit from Tasmania whose VFL career was tragically cut short by the Great War. Hailing from the Merseylea district and establishing his football credentials with Lefroy in the island state, he crossed Bass Strait to join Fitzroy for the 1914 season. He made his debut in Round 2, called up to replace the injured Artie Harrison, and quickly showed aptitude at the elite level by holding his place for seven senior appearances and booting three goals. However, the conflict in Europe brought an abrupt end to his sporting ambitions; Jones enlisted in the 8th Light Horse Regiment shortly after the season concluded. He was killed in action during the ill-fated charge at the Nek at Gallipoli in August 1915, leaving behind a legacy of unfulfilled potential and ultimate sacrifice.
