Bio
Arthur Kemp was a sturdy defender who made an immediate and indelible impact at Punt Road after arriving from VFA club Brunswick. Although he briefly trained with Melbourne during the 1943 pre-season, the 187cm backman found his home at Richmond, where he quickly cemented a spot in the senior lineup and capped off a remarkable debut year by playing in the Tigers' 1943 Premiership victory over Essendon. A reliable presence in the defensive 50 capable of winning his own ball—evidenced by his 16 kicks in the Grand Final—Kemp remained a fixture of the wartime Richmond side for four seasons. His VFL career was relatively brief, however, as he returned to the VFA to play for Brunswick midway through the 1946 season, departing the top level as a premiership player.
