Bio
Arriving at St Kilda with a strong reputation as a Western Australian state representative from South Fremantle, Arthur "Snowy" Retell was a significant mature-age acquisition for the club. His VFL debut was frustratingly delayed by a clearance standoff that forced him to sit out of football entirely for 1934 after moving east. When he finally took the field in 1935 at age 29, the sturdy 183cm forward proved effective near goal, booting eight majors in his eight senior appearances before finishing the year in the seconds. He transitioned quickly from player to mentor, retiring from senior footy to serve as St Kilda's reserves coach the following season.
